ADV, Tokyopop Discontinue More Titles

Jul 12, 2008 22:46

Word has come out that ADV has discontinued even more of their titles & will no longer be releasing them on DVD. The titles in question are Best Student Council, Five Centimeters Per Second, Innocent Venus, & Robotech. Interestingly enough, none of these five titles were part of the Sojitz/ARM deal that they lost partnership with, but totally unrelated title. All of them are currently still available in stores, but after those are gone there wont be any left (unless FUNimation decides to rescue them as well).

The only one of those titles I'm really bummed out on, & the one that makes the least sense, is 5cm. Makoto Shinkai is a great young anime director, & this was his latest masterpiece. If you saw the film when we had it up on NebsTV, then you know terrific it is. & it's not like it's a part of a TV series. It's just a stand alone title. ADV really didn't have the money to keep one small movie on the market?

UPDATE: It seems Best Student Council & Robotech aren't canceled after all, & those two were nothing more than a misunderstanding. The other two titles are still true, though.

Moving on from anime to manga, ADV isn't the only company still having problems. Tokyopop's been having a tough year as well, & just like ADV they've just lost some additional titles. In particular, they've canceled the following volumes:

  • Beyond the Beyond Volume 5
  • Blazin' Barrels Volume 11
  • Karma Club Volume 2
  • Kat & Mouse Volume 4
  • Kindaichi Case Files, The Burial Francs
  • Lagoon Engine Volume 6
  • Lagoon Engine Volume 7
  • Nosatsu Junkie Volume 7
  • Queen's Knight, The Volume 13
  • Queen's Knight, The Volume 14
  • Saver Volume 7
