Okay, back after a long delay! Kicking things off, let's catchup on this year's highly anticipated Anime Saimoe Tournament, where the top anime girls of the past year compete against each other for top moe spot! Last year's final match-up was a grueling head-to-head with Azusa (K-ON) & Nagi (Hayate the Combat Butler), with Azunyan ultimately Read more... )

oh god, you're finally back, and just in time too. Sadly, it seems that foreigners aren't allowed to vote this year (though I did somehow manage to get a code once or twice during the preliminaries), though these tournament holders are deluded if they think they can prevent me from influencing this tournament. Not that I've done a whole lot so far, though I did inform a friend from Pixiv whom I haven't talk to in a while to support Noa from MM! (since he's a pretty big fan of the character) after she lost her first chance at the main tournament but proceeded to the second prelims (which she passed, thankfully). Speaking of the prelims, I was pretty pissed that Enma-kun's Yukiko-hime couldn't even pass that far, as well as Walpurgis Nacht (because so long as some oddball characters are eligible, why not include what is, along with Charlotte, THE most important witch in the series and whom was responsible for an utterly epic, albeit one-sided, fight scene with Homura?), but that aside, I can't say there was too much of an upset there.

Yeah, Homura's loss against Biribiri has left me considerably piiiiiiiissed. It was especially upsetting considering Homura had probably gotten the second highest number of votes in the prelims, and as for Biribiri.... honestly, while I like the character, and was rooting for her last year, she's had a REALLY lackluster performance in Index II. Any badassness she had in season 1 and her spin-off series has essentially taken a backseat whilst Accelerator ran the show (I don't necessarily approve of her suddenly primming up and getting a flower hairpin either, though it was a very minor change). I also hated most of the Misaka voters commenting on how they support her for being a tsundere.... um, so exactly what the hell is Homura supposed to be? Seriously, considering she's an extreme badass AND manages to display several tsundere traits, she seemed like a shoe-in to win the whole thing. Ah well, I've still got hopes riding on Madoka (whom, incidentally, got the highest number of prelim votes), and hopefully this loss was a wake-up call to the MadoMagi faction that there's NO SLACKING. Seriously, when your group is full of favorites to win, you better anticipate some sniping attempts from the opposition.

Also, I find it a shame that Carina couldn't get past round 1, but then, I didn't really expect Campanella to be a strong contender, so I'm just glad she managed to get into the tournament at all (unlike poor Chelsea, my second series favorite after Carina)... she also beat out that whatever-the-fuck-it-is from Hidamari Sketch that keeps getting in every year (but not by an overly wide margin, which is a little discouraging). I just hope Minette doesn't prove to be the strongest performer for that series... my lack of fondness for lolis aside, her pseudo-incestual tendencies are more than a little creepy (oddly, the fact that she's technically a puppet doesn't bug me... she's more lifelike than those Rozen Maiden girls, at least). However, given their strong performances in the first preliminaries (they didn't even need to go through the second prelims), I think it's safe to say that both the Tortilla siblings could make that claim.

You sure about foreigners not being able to vote? I haven't gotten around trying yet this year, but I haven't heard of any widespread problems.

So wait, really? You're quite fond of Noa from MM? I never would've expected that. I mean I like her a lot myself, but I figured you'd be all over Yuno, if anyone. I'm also surprised you'd turn your back on Mikoto so quickly after last year. I know you liked Homura a lot, but I figured this match would've been win-win for you.

oh, I definitely like Yuno, but I can't deny Noa's pretty adorable herself. Besides which, the guy I knew on Pixiv closed his account, and even though I managed to find his e-mail address, I haven't really kept in touch for a while and figured this would make for a good conversation-starter (turns out he wasn't familiar with Saimoe, so he was grateful for the opportunity to support Noa). And as I said before, Mikoto just didn't live up to my expectations in season 2 (unlike last year, where she had her own spin-off series to show off in), to say nothing of the fact that this is fucking Homura we're talking about.
