The final day of C2E2 was the most anticipated for anime fans who attended. The reason for that was simple- a free screening of
Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22! The movie was one of the final events of the convention, so there was other stuff to do & things to see before that.
Sunday is Kids Day, where kids get in for free & there are a ton of kid oriented events. So for those of us who aren’t kids or parents, options are a bit more limited compared to the other two days. However, there’s always a bunch of cool things on the show floor. For one there was a giant display for Thor & SHIELD, where you could “sign up” to “join” SHIELD. Apparently, it’s quite easy to join the most secret & powerful organization in the world.
They also had this sweet SHIELD car! So shiny…..
Remember the Hi-Chew Japanese candy I mentioned in my Day One report? Well they managed to sell out, & made LOTS of money that will go to help out Japan!
Despite so many anime booths winding up being no shows, there was one that sold nothing but anime & Asian live-action DVDs. Actually, there were a lot of bootleg & non-authentic anime DVDs there, which I found disapoitng. But there authentic ones there as well, & managed to pick up a legit set of Love Hina of for only $15!
But finally it was time for the main event of the entire con! Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22: You Can [Not] Advance! It was the English dub, which is different from the subbed version that’s touring movie theaters across the country right now. & for me I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having Tiffany Grant return to voice Asuka after so many years is pure audible bliss. & amazing as the movie was, there were plenty of problems with the presentation, especially in the first 5-10 minutes. Even after someone was able to come to fix the audio & screen problems, the screen they were using was a bit too small to display the movie correctly. But worst of all were the big “For Promotional Use Only - Not for Sale” at the bottom of the screen throughout the ENTIRE movie. Still though, I didn’t let that get in the way of me enjoying a fantastic film.
Afterwards, Spike Spencer was back yet again. This time it was for an FAQ session for Evangelion 2.22. The most interesting tidbit that came out of the panel wasn’t even Evangelion related, but had to do with Bleach. The VA had apparently recently recorded a Bleach movie, which is interesting news considering Viz Media hasn’t done a Bleach flick in quite some time. But it seems they’re finally getting back on track & releasing the third film.
& with that, the final event of the weekend, year two of C2E2 came to a close! It was a blast, & all signs point to year three being bigger & better. Now let’s just hope it goes back to having a decent anime focus like it did last year.
