Whatever Happened to Vampire Bund?

When FUNimation was at Katsucon recently, they had a couple of announcements during their industry panels. Among them was the announcement of the dub cast for Baka & Test. It's about time that Funi got to work on that series too, considering it's been a full year since they originally licensed the series. But BakaTest wasn't the only series announced at that time one year ago.

Dance in the Vampire Bund was also announced at the same time, with the news that shook the English anime community to its core- FUNimation would be censoring the DVD version of Bund. Shortly afterward Funi changed their story slightly, & said that they may not release Vampire Bund edited after all. But that was still a year ago, & we still haven't gotten a proper clarification on the title. The last I heard on it was at C2E2 where they said it would probably be released unedited, but an official statement should be coming soon. But after nearly a year we still don't have anything in stone. Nothing's been said about the title at all, in fact. Until Katsucon, we hadn't heard anything about Baka & Test either, but now that news for that has started to trickle down, it really makes you wonder about Bund. Has FUNimation decided to forget about releasing the series entirely, & are hoping that we forgot about it too?

Oh, & if you were wondering, here's the main dub cast for Baka & Test:

  • Hideyoshi - Brina Palencia (Rei in Rebuild of Evangelion, Ai in Hell Girl, Chopper in One Piece)
  • Kouta - Greg Ayres (Chrono in Chrono Crusade, Negi in Negima, Pope in Trinity Blood)
  • Minami - Leah Clark (Maron in DBGT, Hikari in Rebuild of Evangelion, Coby in One Piece)
  • Mizuki - Alexis Tipton (Moka in Rosario+Vampire, Musubi in Sekirei, Laila in Hero Tales)
  • Shouko - Jamie Marchi (Amanda in Blassreiter, Fatina in Tower of Druaga, Masane in Witchblade)
Other announcements by FUNimation at the convention included licensing of the "TO" CGI OVA, & that they'll be doing a third season of Sgt Frog. Which is interesting considering they had said they didn't plan on doing any more Sgt Frog due to low sales & interest, but it looks like they've changed their minds on that. Speaking of which, we're still waiting to hear news on a third season of Shin-Chan.
