NYAF: Yen Press

Yen Press announced at their panel over the weekend that they'll be releasing an iPad app that will sell digital versions of their titles. Currently, only their original OEL titles can be sold via these means, but they are working with Japanese licensors to get manga series added to the app as well. Yen's interest in digital media goes along with the new digital version of their Yen Plus magazine, which is also viewable on Apple's iPad though through the web browser & not an app. At least the e-version of Yen Plus added two manga series in its second issue- K-ON & Yotsuba&! & while those are both huge A-list titles, none of the Japanese titles that were running in the print version of Plus are being added to the new version. This might have to do with the fact that they're all Square Enix titles (Hero Tales, Nabari no Ou, Pandora Hearts, Soul Eater), & SE is trying to launch their own digital manga site, featuring these titles & more.

In terms of new titles, they announced that they'll be doing a manga adaptation of James Patterson’s bestselling young adult series "Witch & Wizard." They also spoke of plans to adapt Gail Carriger's "Soulless" novel, & are currently seeking an artist for that project.

Finally, Yen announced that they'll be releasing the final volume of the long-running acclaimed manga "With the Light: Raising an Autistic Child." The series came to an abrupt end when manga-ka Keiko Tobe passed away this past January.
