Saimoe 2010: Round 1, Day 2
Winners: Yachiyo Todoroki (Working!!), Ryou Fujibayashi (Clannad)
Looks like the "Working" fan base managed to avoid the potential downfall of a split vote and allowed the more popular character, Yachiyo, to advance on the sacrifice of Kyouko. And I mean Kyouko got like literally next to no votes. And I don't think it's because she's that unpopular, bit Working fans knew that if they wanted one to advance, they had no choice but to rally behind Yachiyo. Good thing too, since Hiiragi (Hanamaru Kindergarten) wasn't that far behind.
And a bit to my surprise, it seems that "Clannad" can still hold on strong in this tournament even after three consecutive years. Ryou soundly beat the others in her bracket, it wasn't even close. Guess I cant count those sad moe girls out just yet, they still got one last year of fight in them! Just a shame that Mika (Nogizaka Haruka) had to be out in the first round as a result.
Holy crud do we have a matchup going on today! This is seriously the kind of huge battle you'd expect to see in one of the final rounds, not the third day of the tournament. It's Saimoe veteran Shana (Shakugan no Shana) vs newcomer Yuri Nakamura (Angel Beats)! It's new versus old in this heated battle, but despite the fact that this is Shana's fourth (yes, FOURTH) Saimoe Tournament, she is nonetheless the favorite to win. In fact during the preliminary rounds this year, Shana out performed every other character in the tournament. Not bad at all for someone who's been around for so long, but Rie Kugimiya fans are probably determined to have one of the greatest tsundere of all time finally win the whole thing for once. That doesn't mean that Yuri wont purr up a fight though, this should still be a close battle. It's just a shame that because of these two giants, people are overlooking the other two girls in this bracket, both of which are quite good on their own- the extremely busty Sernia (Ladies vs Butlers) and the cute Rinko (Omamori Himari). I like both those characters a lot too, but it's just a shame they got mixed into a battle with two giants so early on.
And let's not forget the other group battling out today too, and this one also features Shakugan no Shana vs Angel Beats! This time around it's Kazumi vs Irie, and once again I gotta throw my support behind the Shana character. Despite Kazumi being Shana's rival in love, I like her almost as much. She's extremely cute and very busty to boot. Sorta like a better version of Mikuru from Haruhi Suzumiya (I said the same thing two years ago, if I recall correctly). All that being said, never underestimate the weird unusual power of the Hidamari Sketch girls. Despite being over my head, I expect Yuno to be the one to come out victorious tomorrow. So even though I'm hoping for a double Shana victory tomorrow, I'd be happy just as long as Shana herself advance. Way too early for her to lose already.
