Rakuten Acquires Buy.com

When people talk about shopping online, chances are they're talking a big & well known site like Amazon. Most people don't seem to be aware of Buy.com, which is unfortunate because it's a great site. Granted it's not the prettiest site out there & seems a little rough around the edges, but they have a giant selection of products, good customer service, fast shipping, & most importantly some of the cheapest prices you can find anywhere. Almost everything there is cheaper than what you'd find on Amazon & elsewhere, & as such as been my destination of choice for awhile now. That goes for buying anime DVDs too, which not only beat Amazon in price but also anime shops like RightStuf & Robert's Anime Corner Store as well.

Which is why it's kinda cool that Buy.com has now been bought out by the popular Japanese online store Rakuten. The deal, worth about $250 million, now puts the Japanese company into the American market. One of the things Rakuten is well known for is its large selection of anime cosplay items, so maybe we'll start seeing such things available at Buy.com soon. It's already one of the best places to buy anime DVDs, so let's hope now that it's owned by a Japanese company that it'll become THE destination for American fans.
