It's been over six years since the last time Adult Swim aired new episodes of the classic anime series Lupin the Third, & many a year since they showed any Lupin at all. Well now a local California station, UTBHollywood channel 18.2, has begun running subtitled versions of the same episodes. This marks the first time that the Lupin TV series ever aired in the US in subtitled format. There's no word yet on if the small station will be broadcasting past the first 27 episodes that AS aired.
Separately, Discotek Media will be releasing a new Lupin III movie on DVD beginning March 20. Titled "Lupin the Third Episode 0: First Contact," this will be the first American DVD release for Lupin in several years. Geneon had released several volumes of the aforementioned television series before they went under, & FUNimation licensed eight of the many Lupin movies & specials back in 2002. There have actually been a few other Lupin releases made over the years by several different companies, including of course Disney's release of Hayao Miyazaki's "Castle of Cagliostro."
