As promised, Crunchyroll
began announcing their Fall simulcasts last week. They announced seven titles during the first five days, with six more to be announced this week. So which titles do they have so far? Some pretty good ones:
- Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee
- Asura Cryin 2
- Natsu no Arashi 2
- Sora no Otoshimono
- Book of Bantorra
- Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu 2
- Miracle Train
Tegami Bachi is of course the stylistically beautiful manga that's currently running in the US version of Shonen Jump. It's definitely one of the biggest highlights of the season, & a big score for Crunchyroll. The new season of action series Asura Cryin is a continuation of the first season shown this past Spring. Crunchyroll didn't simulcast the series back then, but have now added all the first season episodes so new fans can catchup & be ready for the simulcasts. The second season of Natsu no Arashi was the biggest no-brainer of them all, since CR simulcasted the first season this past Spring. Sora no Otoshimono is new fan-service series from Kadokawa. I'll definitely be watching this one. Don't drool too much while watching. Book of Bantorra, well, I don't have much to say about this one yet. Seems intriguing though. Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu season 2 is a surprise since CR never had the first season on their site, & unlike Asura Cryin, have no plans of adding it either. But I loved the first season I'm really excited about this regardless. Haruka is one hot otaku. & finally Miracle Train, which is a bunch of bishonen yaoi fan-service. Yup, this is one for the girls.
Something that Crunchyroll is doing differently this season than the previous seasons this year is that the usually the first episode of every series is simulcasted free for everyone. Then every other episode is simulcasted in HD for paying members only, with free SD versions going up for everyone else a week later. This was done as a way of enticing new visitors to sign up for the premium service, but CR doesn't seem to be doing that this time. All the first episodes that have gone up so far are for paying members only.
As I said, six more series are yet to be announced. I really thought that Shin Koihime Muso would be one of the 13 series this year since Crunchyroll
added the first season so late into the game. But even assuming they announce the series this Monday, the first episode will have aired several hours before the announcement takes place. If they were to simulcast the second season, one would think that they would announce it before it airs. Still might happen, but it now looks doubtful.
Also, last week Crunchyroll accidentally leaked news of a simulcast they haven't announced yet, & boy is it a doozy-
Fairy Tail! Yup, perhaps the biggest show of the season is expected to be added to CR, so expect an official announcement on it later this week.
