~Every time I open my Yahoo home page there's the photo of a little blonde dead girl. The racism of that makes me want to kill her again. [Disclaimer to Big Brother; that is a 'rhetorical flourish'..I'm too exhausted to kill anyone, even myself] *sigh*
I really am praying that Assad uses his WMD's soon and blows this outta the news cycle. I'm sick of all this tragedy porn and the bullshit flying from both sides. As I said elsewhere, gun control rhetoric sounds a lot like anti-abortion rhetoric, Morally Absolute and Authoritarian.
One comment I made here, but it would not post for some reason. [maybe cause I said 'fascist']: “I guess you missed this part: "RE: 'gun culture'. Roughly 90,000,000 Americans own apx 300,000,000 firearms of various types. Gun Culture IS American Culture. That cannot be legislated away."
We are not Japan, which is a culturally and racially homogenous society and also very socially rigid, packed into a small archipelago. That said, I'll wager the Yakuza are very well armed.
The whole article reeks of White Middle Class Privilege, as do all the gun control arguments. I'm sure the author claims the mantle of Progressive, but as soon as her own are threatened, Authoritarian solutions become ever so attractive. We all have our Inner Fascist, ready to bare its fangs and extend its claws.
But let's say you get the Gun Control you want. Where do you start? How about LA? There are roughly 100,000 well armed and well organized gang members there. Oh dear...
Well, how about Rural Whites? Yeah, that'll work...to start a wave of political violence and bring the Tea Party roaring back. Hell, I'd vote for those bastards if it came to that.
