Yesterday was a spontaneous day indeed. I had no fourth of July plans until Thursday night online. Erin (from APhiO) IMed me and said Lindsey (also) was having a fourth of July pool party. I was like...hmmm...adventure...maybe not good idea. But I decided what the heck, so I asked for directions, which were poorly given I found out later, lol. Around 4 I left the house and started to go to Pittsburgh. She lives in Monroeville, so it should have been an hour and a half at the most. But, 3 factors impaired my ability to arrive in this amount of time:
1) Bad directions (Monroeville exit 6 must not exist anymore)
2) Rain, and LOTS of it, slowed traffic down to 35-40 MPH instead of 65-70
3) My bad luck which enables me to get even more lost
But eventually, thanks to talking on the phone with Linz, I got to her house in one piece, in 3 hours, so it was 7 then. Shortly after I arrived Brent did too. I met some new people, and saw some people I knew from college. I knew Bill, Brinker, Kevin, Lorri, Josh, Jeremy, Stephanie, Carolyn and Erin from school, and I met Rush, Eric, Cynthia, Erin's brother and his friend.
Here are some of the highlights of the time:
-Swimming- Yes we still went swimming, though it was really cold. At least it stopped raining for us. I had fun flipping Cynthia off her raft, and dunking Lindsey, but she got me back. I think she was able to dunk me because I was paralyzed from the freezing water, but I could be wrong ;) Lindsey rocks! :P
-Grandpappy Kevin- I had some interesting conversation with Pappy and Brinker while they chain-smoked on the porch. Good times.
-Fireworks- We still saw some decent fireworks from the Christian Church of Christianity or Something that is right down the street from Linz'
-Fire- No bonfire/pool party would be complete without some pyromaniac skillz. It was difficult starting the fire since it was so wet out, and due to lack of firebuilding skillz (I know I'm an Eagle scout, but there were complicating factors I guess...*excuses*). We got a fire going, and eventually it was just coals. But Bill and I wanted to play with the fire more, so we got out the lighter fluid and were playing with that, burning things and eventually "jumping the fire". Bill also had some toy firework things he lit up and Lindsey got sparklers, which we used i about 5.4 seconds, haha.
-Videotime- We watched a fun "going away" video from the end of the year that Lindsey took while everyone was packing. It was cool and reminded me of how much fun college really is, I can't wait to go back!! :)
-24- That's the magic number. We played that addition/subtraction/multiplication/division game for a while. And some of the 3 circle problems had us stumped for over 15 minutes, haha. I need to freshen up on those skills for Elementary Education :)
Well, I got home in half the time, and slept in this morning til 1. I had my eye appointment rescheduled til Wednesday, cause there was no way I was waking up for a noon appointment. Anyways, I might see 28 Days Later with Ed and some of the gang if I can get a hold of him. Later gatorz!
