So, only two days separate me from returning to Chicago. It's been a long month here at home, much more gratifying than my last visit on the summer of 2007.
A good chunk of my stay was spent in Margarita Island with my parents and a couple of cousins. It was my second stop there in the last year since my parents got an apartment in the Pampatar region of the island, a place they will eventually call home. At the moment they renewed the contract with the landlord here in Caracas and their adventure in this city seems to want to continue for at least one more year. However, the time in Caracas is slowly reaching an end. My parents have lived in this city for their entire lives, while I've called Caracas home for as long as I remember not including my other home in Chicago, or before in Nebraska.
The vacation in Margarita was not as good as it could have been. I spent much of the time there battling illnesses. To start of, I had to put up with a virus that affected my stomach severely. It came in cycles and it seemed to have been a virus that I got from one of the cousins who traveled with me. I struggled to recover for the first six days of the year and when it seemed defeated I got sick again but this time with a flu. I got this virus from the same cousin who had been hit by illness for a good part of the past month. The flu was nasty for a couple of days limiting me to bed and making me feel weak and sore. I even experience what felt like an about to faint sensation that made me want to yell out of frustration.
Due to my ill state, my parents and cousins had to put up with a rather frustrated self that was moody for a good part of the time spent there. All in all, I spent the first 10 days of the year sick, way to receive a new year !!
There were good things about the trip though. I got new items of clothing, had fun a couple of times at the beach, visiting the building's swimming pool and trying to get tanned which I accomplished but not as fully as I had hoped.
My return to Caracas saw me going to the ophthalmologist to check my eyes which have increasingly bothered me in the last few weeks if not months. It was obvious to me from a long time back that I had a problem seeing things that are at a certain distance and my visit to the doctor only proved what was already known. I will be getting my first corrective glasses today when I pick them up from the lab. I selected the lenses that looked less horrible but not really managing to find one that I was definitely pleased with. It is not as bad only because I won't have to wear them 24-7, but only when working with the computer, reading or for other tasks that may require a sharper eye. This being the reason why I also decided against contact lenses for now.
Yesterday night saw Craig and me having a phone chat for the first time in a couple of weeks since it was impossible for me to call him while I was in Margarita. It was nice to hear his voice again right before I depart back to his arms, body and sexually deprived bed....which certainly needs to change....hahaha
Today....nothing exciting so far.
