Of an auction listing...

The man browsed the catalogue, idly, until an entry caught his eye...

Untitled volume, source of The two hundred and fourty-one monsters of Hell.

He continued to read...

"One of the few items to survive the Saxony arson of 1973, this book was supposedly part of the collection of Rudolf Freiherr von Sebottendorff, as records show that a two hundred and thirty-eight page hardcover matching the description once belonged to the renowned German occultist.

The volume is untitled, with each page appearing in a different language, the earliest as old as ancient Sanskrit. Almost every page contains a sketch and details of a unique entity, most gruesome in explicit detail, labeled a "demon" by the author. The last two pages are unique, in that the second-to-last is blank, and the last has a cypher which does not resemble any known language.

The volume has supposedly been studied by 'scholars' of the occult before. Legends claim that all have failed to translate the final page. Supposedly, of the seven individuals over the past century who claimed that they had broken the cypher, two were subsequently committed to private care, their notes lost or unpublished. The remaining five were reportedly never seen again.

The contents of the volume, barring the last page, were successfully translated into English in 2002 by Prof. William Zeltz, and published as The two hundred and fourty-one monsters of Hell. With the requested seven year hiatus post-translation completed, we are pleased to offer this unique volume for the discerning collector."

The man calculated... and his eyes widened, before he smiled grimly. It was fortunate that such things were insured, as this particular volume was going to get tossed into the middle of next decade by a certain Master of Time...

...maybe by then, he'd know what to do about it.
