P.O.S.- Never Better review

How do I review a hip hop CD that I have no place in reviewing? I'm not a huge hip hop fan. I know what I like.. when ever I buy a rap or hip hop cd its either for lyrics, beats, rhymes or bass. It's rare to find a CD that has it all.

and this is where P.O.S. newest CD, Never Better Succeeds. The whole CD is just great. There are standout songs that immediately catch your ear, but I can honestly listen to this album from start to finish and love something in each song. And the music flows great.

and P.O.S. has skills (not with a z) legitimate skills with his choice of rhyme flow, the meaning behind his words and the decision of when to drop the music and let this words take over.  It just plain works.

Many of the songs sound like he's rapping in a band, with the use of drum loops and feedback, it just rocks. "Let it rattle" is one of the best opening tracks I've heard in a while and the way it leads into "drumroll" is great. Low Light Low Life is just a beautiful song and reminds me of that old school camaraderie  of De La Soul/Mony Love/Tribe Called Quest in the very early nineties.

"Goodbye" is the radio friendly single, but still works in the whole album. While a possible second single, "Been Afraid" for some reason reminds me of a 2Pac's Brenda's Baby but taken to a different level.

Most of his rhyme flow seems to evoke early NAS mixed with Modern Twista into this completely different animal.

I've burned through this CD about 4 times now and it gets stronger with every listen.

It still might not be for everyone, but if you like innovative hip hop, this would be a must own.

9 out of 10.

never better, hip hop, awesome, music, p.o.s.
