After listening to Bloc Party's Weekend in the City CD from beginning to end more than once... (Actually about 3 or 4 times) I can say that this is quite a good CD.
This is Not Silent Alarm. And that was the most jarring part of adjusting to Bloc Party's "New Sound". For the record, Bloc Party hasn't changed their sound. The biggest difference between Silent Alarm and Weekend in the City is that Silent Alarm was more of a Dance Album and Weekend in the City is more of your typical College Rock. That's not a bad thing.
This Cd is a mix of hard rock tracks and sweeping layered love songs. If you can balance "Hunting for Witches" with "I still remember" and "Sunday", you are doing something right.
I will say that this is a great album worth owning but ultimately the Hard rock songs are stacked in the front and the lovey dovey songs play out the the rest of the CD. Only if you buy the version from TARGET will you get "The Once and Future King" and "Secrets" singles that add a little more Rock to the end of the CD.
My first listen I would have given this a 7 out of 10. After listening to this CD enough to that I'm enjoying it, I'll give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.
Worth Owning!
