Arthur's selfishness just broke me :(. If he'd only waited, he'd have a life without Merlin but an eternity with him and now they're doomed to be apart for ever. This is beautiful and heartbreaking and so, so well done. And Arthur not knowing he isn't paying the price yet, but Merlin is. How he must feel when he figures it out, that Merlin isn't aging, that he'll never go to that happy place again and that consequently that place after life won't be happy for Arthur either because Merlin will never be there OH MY HEART! I am being incoherent I know, but this is so amazing I can't find the right words.

I kept wanting to slap some sense into Arthur, I'll admit it :). And (see, I've thought about this way too much!) if the fic had gone on -- thank god it didn't! -- I think Arthur would have been happy about Merlin being immortal because Arthur loves life, how could immortality be a bad thing? You're right, Arthur wouldn't have figured it out until he died and Merlin wasn't there.
