And So We Fade - 4800 words, Merlin/Arthur, PG-13, flangst, future fic, minor character death, incomprehensible physics, and the coin thing is shamelessly stolen from T.H. White (with my deepest apologies) - the servants tended to look away when it came to Arthur and his sorcerer (to Merlin and his king)
(
“Where,” said Arthur in what he considered to be a very rational tone given the circumstances, “are my chambers?” )

This is beautiful. Painful, but beautiful.

Your dialogue is just... I'M CRYING. OMG WHO ARE YOU? I DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE FEELINGS.
This is just... I'm reccing this because maybe other people can express what I obviously cannot, other than this is amazing. it's perfect. It's so in character that I DESPAIR for other writers who read this because lord, you have risen the bar magnificently.
This is amazing.

And I'm so thrilled you liked the dialogue because I'm usually crap at dialogue; I've honestly written things where everyone conducted conversations in mime. And 'in character' is the best compliment I could ever get and I will stop rambling now, but thank you so, so much for this comment. I'm grinning like a lunatic right now; it means so much to me!

It's just as lovely as the first time. There's something so natural and matter-of-fact about your language--about the way they talk to each other like they've known each other for too long but not enough.
Anyway, I read this just now and CRIED AGAIN but that might have just been my general angst.

Thank you so much. I hope the angst and despair clear up -- rainbows, silver linings, manic leprechauns (apparently my idea of happiness includes tripping acid, leprechauns, what even sldkfjsdf). And I'm glad it holds up on revisit, haha. I'm... trying to not read it :).
