Week 2 - Spain - Postcard Challenge 2012

Week 2 of Darcy's Postcard Challenge takes us to 'Spain'. So much choice with this fabulously colourful and vibrant country, the food, the wine, vineyards, landscape, ocean, costume, architecture, customs, folk art, the list just goes on and on, for me though it had to be the Flamenco dancer as in our bedroom for the past 14 years we've have a very large painting titled "The Red Skirt" which I was given by Billy after one of his more flamboyant house clearances. I just love the painting, its so passionate, full of life and movement, the old wooden 50s frame as well, it is one of my favourite artwork pieces we have in the house. So I chose a Flamenco Dancer as the main focus of my postcard this week.

First I cut some watercolour paper to size and stuck it using glue stick to the front of my postcard, then I used three neocolor crayons to scribble all over the background in red, orange and yellow before applying water with a thickish paintbrush to spread the colours and blend them for the sunburst effect.
Next once the colour background was all dry I applied Smooch black ink in Tuxedo Black using its own stiff little brush for the lettering and three little birds.
The dancer was a colouring sheet from my children's craft chest, I first coloured it in the brownish dark red marker, added silver neocolour for the skirt ruffles and other detailing, went over it with silver gel pen but its still not showing up too well in the photographs, its a lot more shimmery in real life. Added detailing with pens and thought it should remain simple so considered the card finished.

For the book page instead of an envelope this one has a paper corner I made from some slightly textured backing paper simply gluing along the edge to form a corner, I decorated the page using the same methods as the card adding "week 2 Spain" at the top in the black ink.
The back of the card reads ........
"Hi K
so so good to hear from you last week and that Austria finds you well. Can not wait to see you again and listen to your enchanted cello music. Spain is hot for this time of year, makes me think of that special weekend do you remember? fond memories that's for sure. Colourful bright and fun are things that I love here, the food is beautiful.
Sending you all my love till next time, B x"

After sitting there for ages waiting for something to flow out of my pen onto the back of the card as I really did not have a plan at all for what I should write, I decided that all is not what it seems with these two characters, lots more to come with this story, look out for extra pages at the beginning of the book in week 3 showing their bio and a few other interesting details like where the addresses are being re-directed too and the introduction of a third character .......... its got me all excited !!
Thank you Darcy, this week has been fun, cant wait to see where in the world we will be visiting next week for week 3 :)
