i sleep so well with him next to me. i woke up this morning with no shirt on, in a different bed than usual, and suddenly it was 11am and brad was smiling and i was curled up around him. we both slept in jeans on a tiny twin mattress and had a ridiculous amount of champagne last night for carla's 21st birthday...but despite everything i woke up refreshed and peaceful. while brad showered i investigated his room and then sat on his couch and attempted to play 'day tripper' on his guitar. when he drove me back he was clean and had all his stuff for lab and i was in last night's clothes and i had nothing but my cell phone and my camera. and oh, he's too good to me.
last night was busy. we went to a japanese taiko drum festival in the outdoor park stage, which was fascinating and incredibly enjoyable. the drums are huge and the performance was colorful and theatrical and there was a arab comedian between the acts...we ate sno-cones and soft pretzels and it was a completely bizarre cultural juxtaposition. then there was flip-cup and quite a lot of beer and then champagne and celebration for me and all of the juniors and seniors who are carla's friends. then vernon, mausami, brad and i walked to south colleges...and found nothing but brad's old girlfriend, which was interesting. she's adorable, by the way, but he says he broke it off at this time exactly last year because she's 'kind of full of shit,' ha whatever that means. but when he told me that, we were sitting at the piano together playing edelweiss and he held me close and i realized that i'm pretty sure he really really likes me. and that feeling full from champagne and music and love is possibly my new favorite feeling.
this cd is absolutely gorgeous - totally bizarre, but so good. i just bought it off itunes and highly recommend it. devendra is coming october 11 to houston...the same night as gang of four, which is quite a predicament. damn damn shit fuck oh well hopefully i'll make it all work out.
we went to see u.s.e. thursday (wednesday?) night - which was funny because they're a seattle band but i saw them for the first time in houston - and the venue was gorgeous and chill and the bands were noisy and danceable and insane. there was a drag queen in the audience who kept making eyes at brad, i was flattered for him. there was also a group of crazy mexican men who danced up a storm, and incredibly drunken young women who wouldnt stop throwing themselves at the band members. the lead singer of one of the opening bands had a massive peacock tattoo that spread across his left side and back, and he writhed around onstage and was surprisingly seductive for a 40ish-year-old man. i almost fell asleep on the way back in the car and brad got lost and had to go around campus a ridiculous amount of times before we found the correct entrance. altogether, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
i have two midterms this week (in astronomy and sociology, my hardest courses) that i havent started studying for. i'm pretty much fucked. and i really want to go to black rebel motorcycle club tomorrow night, goddamn. what a tough life.
And at your end and your leaving
May you have no sin worth grieving
And I hope that I can someday ask
Something new to you at last
Now you talk, I'll pour
And our nearness grows
And when I'm bored, I'll let you know
This black ink cross that's on our palms
Let's keep them on
And never wash them off
It ain't for God, it's just for us
