Dear Livejournal Genie,
I need to find calendar software that I like and will use consistently. I've tried iCal, which has most of what I need, but I get frustrated with its limited functionality in the "to-do items that repeat" category. I've tried Sunbird, which also has most of what I need, but it is always as slow as molasses in January and I'm not in love with the to-do list configuration. Also, this is stupid, but I reallyreallyreally like it when you can set the disappearance rate of items you've completed. (That is, I want them to stick around with their checkboxes happily checked for a day or two -- silly, but I am forced to admit that silly things like a list of finished tasks does motivate me).
Here are the features that I want:
- ability to set multiple calendars (home, writing, research, travel, etc), distinguished by colors
- quick toggle between day, week, month views
- flexible control of repeating items (ability to repeat to-dos as well as events, repeat by day, by day of week, etc)
- control over the display of my to-do items (quick re-order by due date, calendar name, or priority, for example)
- control over the disappearance rate of completed items
- in the month view, a quick-list of the day's events and to-dos would be lovely
- operates with reasonable speed and will not hog all available memory
- I care less about exporting to the web, but that could be nice eventually.
- cheap or free would be ideal, but I'm happy to pay if y'all find me something that works
Do you use software to do any of this? Which one(s), and why do you like (or not like) the one that you're using? What killer features could you not live without? Am I crazy to do all of this by laptop instead of paper & pencil / Blackberry / Palm / iPhone?
Thanks in advance for recommendations!
