East Berlin, PA, is not a particularly central area, but if you're ever near it - or are willing to drive near it - I can't recommend the
Lady Bug Tearoom highly enough. I attended a birthday party there today and the food was beyond scrumptious, much of it not only fresh out of the oven, but the ingredients fresh out of the garden in the back. With a couple of exceptions - the chicken salad and the signature homemade crackers with parmesan cheese and bacon - the menu was entirely vegetarian: fruit salad, Italian bread spread with gorgonzola mixed with honey, 5-vegetable quiche, roasted vegetable skewers, choice of white bean soup or tomato bisque, fruit scones with fresh blackberry jam, and loads of desserts, including another signature: the ladybug painted cookies. And all with an iced tea and two pots of hot tea of your choice - there are 10 of them, all named after members of the family that owns the establishment.
It's an intimate space; it won't hold more than 28 people, so it fills up fast. When you come in, you get to select your own teapot and cup from the eclectic stock on the walls.
SO totally worth the drive to get there!
Because driving up to PA put me halfway to my parents, that's where I am now; back in the family home for the evening, happily stuffed and trying to think of an occasion worthy of another drive to East Berlin.
