Childhood vaccinations...

Dec 28, 2005 11:23

Ok, I haven't really thought about it, but I probably should. What does everyone think about them, and what does RESEARCH say about them? I know this sounds stupid, but I really don't have much time to do a whole lot of research and I think I really should know about these things. Alright...any comments or anything (besides debating) that needs ( Read more... )

And Personal, Religious reasons.
8) I am vehemently pro-life. It may not seem possible, but there are a good handful of vaccines (chicken pox, Hep A, Rubella/Mumps, MMR, Measles/Rubella, Rubella, Mumps, Rabies - one of two available) that are made with human diploid cells - cells from aborted fetuses. I cannot justify the supposed health benefits for my child at the expense of the life of another.

This is from an email I just sent someone else with vaccine questions... sorry for the cut and paste, but it has all the info I would want to give.

I started doing research back in high school - I'm 27 now... so it's been awhile =)

I started with info from http://www.909shot.com - that's the National Vaccine Information Center. They have a lot of links there to build off of. Of particular interest to me is what is required for each state, and how you can get exemptions... some are medical and religious only, some states have a "philosophical" objection which is the easiest. They also have sample letters to help you state your objections to different vaccines (or all if that's the case).

Here's the links that I have in general...

http://www.momtoanangel.net/ (this is a sad site... but there's great info here, too)
http://www.pathguy.com/antiimmu.htm - this is a site that is pro-vax

The mothering.com one will probably give you a lot of info that I don't have listed - they're a great site if you don't know about them (great magazine, too).

I know that it is suggest to break up the multiple vaxs. Same reason as not getting a vaccination if your child has a cold... it's too much for their little bodies to fight off two (or three) things at once. Here's some info from mothering...

I've also started reading a lot of info from Dr. Mercola (listed in a link above - he has a lot of good info about health in general... things like artificial sweeteners. I know that's not what you asked, but I thought I'd throw that in, too =)

I know that this is all a bunch of internet sites, but I went from living in Chicago (with wonderful libraries) to rural South Dakota... with the K-12 school library being our only library... so the internet has been a God-send this year! One book you might be interested in is Vaccinations, A Thoughtful Parent's Guide by Aviva Jill Romm. I have not purchased it yet, but it was recommended to me by two of my friends.

Finally, I don't want this to seem like I'm trying to sway your opinion. This is a decision that every parent must do their research on and make up their own minds. Just remember that no one is required by law to vaccinate - if it goes against your beliefs, you can file an exemption to allow your child to go to school if you do not plan on homeschooling. This is a PARENT'S decision - not the government's.
