Thank god work is finished for another week, and what a hell of a week it has been.
At the end of term we have a teacher leaving, a teacher coming back from maternity leave and two probationer teachers becoming full time permanent members of staff and as a consequence there has to be room changes. It's been on the boards for ages that today 2 of them would be swapping rooms and then during the holidays the 2nd room change will occur to allow the teacher who has been on maternity leave back to her old room and the probationer who has been in her room moving to a room of his own. Simple you'd think - until the teachers themselves get involved.
What happens today - all the room changes are taking place even though one of them doesn't need to happen until August! And when was all this decided - on Wednesday at a departmental meeting that WE (myself and the other Technician) were told not to go to since nothing that affected us was going to be talked about. So when did I find out about the 3rd move - 20 minutes before lunchtime, so guess who had to give up their lunch break to shift chemicals and books around for a move that isn't needed. It didn't help either that the school is absolutely boiling since it was a nice and sunny 20C outside.
It's going to be even worse on Monday too as not only does the new timetable come into effect (which I haven't even seen yet!) but the times of the periods changes from 40 minutes to 54 minutes. The start and end of the school day are still the same, but morning interval is now 10.34am and lunch for teachers/pupils is 12.37 - 1.37!
Now do I phone in sick on Monday?
