Here there be spoilers... muimi07 October 5 2005, 22:00:03 UTC
Eh, I didn't like Wash all that much during the series (I wanted to kill him during War Stories because he wouldn't shut up!) but I grew to like him alright later. He played a vital role in the ensemble balance and I think his death was pointless. But I ranted about that on my own blog. I'm so glad that I spoiled myself via Serenity movie comms way before I saw the movie because otherwise I would have cried! Even though I knew about the death, the first time I saw it, I was just :O for the next few moments that I missed what else happened. I'm annoyed that Joss killed him because his death served no story moving purpose. :O

On an interesting note, it was kind of weird to watch it the second time around and be able to hear the audience reaction around me:

WASH: I am a leaf on the wind.
AUDIENCE: *roars with laughter*
**SPLUT**
AUDIENCE: *huge, collective gasp of shock*

And about Book. Here's some spoilers for the series/movie but instead for the comic...

Okay, now I'm safe :P

There was a Serenity mini that was three comics long, written by Joss Whedon and published by Dark Horse that was meant to be an interim story between "Objects in Space" (last Firefly episode) and the Serenity movie. If you're into collecting, they've got a cover for every single character done by big name artists like Quesada, etc. The comic itself was great and I'm glad I hunted down the issues because they sold out pretty quickly.

Blue hand group shows up in the comic so I was actually surprised that the movie had NOTHING to do with the Blue Hand group at all! It's also in the comic that Book makes his decision to leave.
