Call for Middle Eastern Dancers and Musicians
We are seeking performers for one, possibly two, days during our upcoming art
show, Songs of the Sand: Visual perspectives on the Middle East . This
exhibition is running at the Gallery of Social and Political Art located at 55
Boylston Street, Boston MA. The Gallery is open October 21 st through December
3rd and is free and open to the public on Wednesdays (5-8), Saturdays (2-6), and
Sundays (2-6). The opening is Saturday, October 21st from 6-9.

Performance Specifics
Date of performance: Saturday, October 28th (we will schedule 1 other date in
November or December if there is enough interest)
Time: 2:00-6:00
Performance times: 15 minute, 30 minute, and 60 minute sessions
What we are seeking:
1) Short talks (~15 min.) on various aspects of Middle Eastern Dance and
Music. This could be a discussion about the different styles of dance,
different instruments, etc. (We are also looking for speakers who have lived or
traveled to the region who would be willing to talk about their experience and
thoughts)
2) Middle Eastern/Oriental/Bellydancers to showcase different styles of
dance. This could also include dancing with zills/finger cymbals, scarves,
canes, etc.
3) Musicians performing live Middle Eastern music and percussion both
solo and with dancers.
Compensation: The Gallery of Social and Political Art is a non-profit
organization and is not able to provide monetary compensation, however all
participating performers or speakers will receive the following:
· Name, performance, Web site, and other contact information will be
included in the show program and on the show Web site.
· Space on the information table to leave contact information and
other materials
· Ability to have a tip jar available during your performance
