Weird fact of the Decade so far, imo

This is a repost because I have accidently restricted all access to my posts (such as they are) and I thought this one was more accessible.

Re: Original TRON movie =

full disclosure: while I never thought Tron was a great movie, I always like young Bruce Boxleitner in spandex (I didn't mind an older him in B5, either).

Not related: I'm listening to the highly technical commentary on the newly released dvd of the older film. Based on a comment by one of the people, god knows who, it was recorded for the laser disc version (pre-dvd, post VHS digital, dead technology)

Hearsay, but I'm going to treat it as true:fact -- apparently, Peter O'Toole, THE Peter O'Toole, really, really, really wanted to be cast as Tron/Alan.

I've seen Peter O'Toole in a number of movies - My Favorite Year, Masada, Lawerence OA., The Stunt Man -- I have difficulty imagining how he'd act with primitive blue screen given the constraints this movie was made under. But who knows -- maybe it would have saved the movie.. It would have sucked for Bruce, thought.

Side note - Dillinger's desk in Tron is very similar to Dr. Merrick's (Sean Bean's) desk in The Island == Hawaii 50 has a little similar look, too. That may be the coolest concept from Tron overall.
