It's been a while since I last posted. I keep having tidbits hop into my brain that feel like a sentence, disconnected from all other sentences, that could go into a post. If I actually put them all down, it'd be long, and I wouldn't be able to cut it into cohesive sections, and that seems silly. So I'll do a small portion, instead.

So, in the past almost-month, I've spent the majority of my weekends with rislyn. After five years off, it's been good. I just had a weekend to decompress, since the unspoken counterpoint to that is that I spent the last several weekends before that being social for the entire weekend, and needed a break.

As part of those weekends with rislyn, I also spent a couple of weekends in the greater DC Metro area. I still love it, really. There are trains that take you places for a couple of dollars about 20 hours a day. There's federal architecture everywhere. There are movie houses that show only indie movies. There are museums. There are airports with decent rates.

Of course, there's also crime, squalor, fanatics, pollution, congestion, overpopulation, and it's more expensive than Blacksburg in just about every respect. But, if I were a rich man, I could see myself keeping an apartment up there, on the edge of a metro line, just so I could spend time in that place when I desired to.

I've been spending too much money lately. It is an odd case of actively allowing myself to overcome my willpower. I think I'll hit a certain point and stop. I may have actually hit that point: I've got a large pile of new PS2 Tactical games that will likely be at least 40 hours of in-game time each, at least. I've bought a few new PC games, and finally rebuilt enough parts of my PC that it can run modern graphical games without intermittent blue-screens. I've stockpiled most of the music I've wanted to get recently, and expanded my TV-DVD collection by several mre seasons of shows than I've actually seen. I even managed to pick up a copy of Love Actually yesterday from Gail, who now works at Fye, used to work at Emilio's, and is, along with uilos and pictsy, my proof that although I generally dislike the facial features of full-blooded Asians, I generally like the facial features of people of Asian ancestry mixed with something more European. She informed me that there is almost a movie's worth of deleted scenes, and that the movie was apparently originally going to be over three hours long. Considering it was over two hours, I saw it twice, and never felt that it dragged, I find myself wondering if it would've worked at that length, as well.

I keep seeing grdnoproserpine in passing, and finding her charming. I finally got around to taking her to dinner over the weekend, and still found her charming. Yay for getting to know new people!

I determined that josephinegreen is still alive, and has at least some mitigating factors for not talking to me in the past couple of months. I haven't decided how to respond yet, since I lack any useful way to communicate with her other than leaving emails, which don't seem right under the circumstances.

If I haven't personally told you otherwise, I hope you have a good Thanksgiving.

-----

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I noticed, while sitting in Lefty's yesterday afternoon, that Blacksburg turns into an even-more-international sort of place over Thanksgiving break, because we're left with lots of foreign students that don't go home for this holiday. There was a moment in Lefty's where I was, out of nearly a dozen people, the only one speaking English. It was very odd.

I now own something around 5500-6000 Battletech TCG cards. Anyone want a deck?

I bought the Lorenna a' Marlena CD. (Lorenna is Neil Gaiman's personal assistant; Marlena is the Pagan Tarot-reader-buxom-brunette-model-from-LA that did the Fox 13 Nights of Fright with him in '04.) It's a nifty mix. They have a song that sounds like it could've been written for the Indigo Girls, a song that could've been written for Flogging Molly, a few standard Celtic ones, and a couple of gothy ones, including a nice gothy tango and a haunting gothy one Neil wrote. All in all, I'm really pleased with the purchase; too bad I'll likely never see them live.
