On his blog over the weekend, Neil Gaiman made a reference to assuming he'd invented "sarcasm marks" that he could use in a setence. It's such a wonderful idea, I'm amazed mrstickman had never thought of it before. I think I will start using ^ for the purpose, because I don't use ^ for any other purpose at all, really.

It also struck me that this idea is a rather advanced linguistic concept... I mean, sarcasm itself is a relatively advanced linguistic concept, so the idea of marks to denote it must be even higher. Which made me start wondering whether there are any cultures out there that have already developed such things. Any linguistic experts to help with that one?
