Last weekend I got the newest Death Cab for Cutie and Fiona Apple CDs. They are both absolutely wonderful.
I love the Postal Service and the lead singer's voice in general so I don't know why I am just now listening to Death Cab, but I am. Their music is so mellow and the lyrics are so creative. I have only listened to the CD about 1.5 times, so nothing specific comes to mind right now, but trust me on this. :)
I have Fiona Apple's previous two CDs, but this CD seems different; jazzier. I really have no piano playing or music creating talent but it seems to me that Fiona uses relatively simple music and adds really clever lyrics to it to create a complex sound that I just love. And her voice alone is so interesting. She reminds me of Tori Amos in that she can make me feel happy or sad just by her voice intonation. I would recommend Fiona's CD to anyone who just went through a breakup--it sounds like Fiona has a lot of issues to sort out regarding past relationships.
Now my goal is to find the songs from Extraordinary Machine that leaked out before the actual album was released. Supposedly they are different versions. I have read that Fiona fans often like the first versions better. I can't stop singing the songs on the album I have, so I can't imagine better versions of them.
