Like a lot of people, I'm really excited to read the seventh Harry Potter book when it comes out in July.
I am also, however, both anal and a cheapskate. I own all the previous books in paperback, and don't relish the prospect of shelling out money for a hardcover I don't really want. In the past I've been able to wait a couple of weeks and borrow a copy from a generous friend or family member once they've read it. But I'm in a new place this time around, and I'm not sure whether I know any local, rabid HP fans who'd be willing to part with their copy so soon. Plus the fact that this time I'm really worried about having the ending ruined for me if I don't read it soon after publication.
In a somewhat desperate attempt, I logged onto the library website to see if I could put a hold on a copy there. I could, but since the books were ordered in February apparently 280 other people had already had the same idea. I reluctantly signed on as #281 and began to calculate my chances of getting my hands on a copy before Christmas, when I noticed... the library also had a listing for a LARGE PRINT edition. Four copies, with an order date of today. Meaning been it became available in the catalogue mere hours ago. Meaning it had zero holds.
Guess who's #1 ;-).
