Public Enemies and other arts

Loved it! I think it was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Someone told me that the NYT reviewer described it as an art film with violent action sequences. That actually makes a lot of sense to me. It's gorgeously filmed. I can't imagine anyone other than Johnny Depp playing Dillinger in this movie. He's just incredible.

In other arts-viewing-related news:
We're enjoying the Austin Chamber Music Festival. Last weekend, they brought in the Turtle Island String Quartet and invited them to do their A Love Supreme tribute to John Coltrane music live. So, essentially, you've got a string quartet of stellar musicians playing jazz and improvising. Loved it.

The next night, at the Continental Club, we had Tin Hat. I don't even know how to describe them. Again, there's a lot of classical training there, put in the service of jazzy, bluesey, folky and often eerie compositions. Amazing show.
