We live in a fucked up world.
This story has saddened, sickened, and appaled me. What has pushed it over the limit is the fact that not ONE major news media outlet has reported this story. It has been 3 months, and this story is just now making it's way out through blogosphere. What a sick and sad state of affairs. We have soldiers dying in a pointless foreign war every day (14 more in the last 48 hours btw, has that been reported?) and blatant hate crimes are being commited, people are being beaten to near death and left in a ditch naked and bleeding, and we don't hear about it until 3 months later. At the same time our elected officials don't have the balls to stand up and do something to end either one. The war drags on unchallenged every day, with the President's meaningless benchmarks for succes, and a lack of SOLID Federal hate crime legislation in this country lets offenders go with a slap on the wrist because of weak current legislation, and serious lack of state hate crimes laws.
It's time to get outraged folks. It's time to raise our voice again like 10 years ago when Matthew Shepard met a similar heinous fate. I urge you to contact your local media outlets, as well as the national news outlets and call for this story, and the others out there undoubtedly also swept under the rug to be reported on. And contact your representatives in congress (again if neccessary, with a link to the story) to urge them to take a stand on work for tougher Federal hate crime legislation.
