So yeah, fall is here. And nothing says fall like the allergy changes that go with it. This begins the time of the year that cats love with all the static electricity that they build up and discharge through their nose when you pet them.
One of my list of things to do in the yard has been to remove the random crap left by the previous owner(s). This includes random bricks, broken edging, plastic bases of lights that were up the driveway edge, etc. In digging up the bases of the lights, I found the cord that connected them together. So I'm trying to back-trace it to the place where it may have plugged in. On one of my breaker panels, I have a switch labelled "flag pole" so I believe that I have an electrical junction somewhere near the thing in the front yard. This would likely be where the lighting system was plugged in... but I haven't been able to dig all the way back to this point yet. It has been slow going because of all the roots and rocks that I've hit along the way. Where I am now, the edging is now starting about 2 inches below the surface and has a lot of surface roots across it. The electrical cord is about 20 inches down and ... I keep finding sprinkler system pieces along the way. So far I've uncovered 2 different types of sprinkler heads. So there's probably more pipes under there as well. The electrical cord was wrapped around one PVC pipe and I had to dig around that.
Oh, and I've also found a few pieces of rebar sticking up in the yard. So I've removed them. Nothing like rusted pieces of metal where you would normally walk. Not sure why they would be buried where they are... they are not next to a property line that I can see.
We did Disney a few weeks back. No complaints, was a good trip. The girls behaved very well considering the hours and messed up schedule. They are definitely wanting to go back. We'll probably do a Great Wolf Lodge trip sometime in the next 12 months as a cheaper thing. Not sure if they're ready for the MagicQuest part of the Lodge or not, but we'll see.
I also did Washington D.C. last week for work. It was a good trip and it isn't often that we get the team together, so it is my 1 time of the year to around co-workers. In the evenings we had some nice outings. Luckily we missed the whole papal visit blocking off downtown.
I think I'll look at getting the pool winterized in the next few weeks. I think with the rain and cool weather that we're done with it for the year.
Yesterday I took a break from cleaning and played some Marvel Lego's on the XBox. Kara was working on some educational worksheets for her quiet time (while Kaitlyn was napping) so she came down to watch me play while she did her sheets. She started asking me about all the characters and what they do... and who is a good guy vs. bad guy. So we covered some of the basics with Iron Man, Spiderman, Galactus, Jean Grey, etc. She actually was doing pretty good at following along while still getting a lot of her sheets done. She's really wanting to be old enough to play these video games. :)
