Rampant Stupidity
So what's been going on lately? I've been surrounded by rampant stupidity and general incompetence. And I'm not talking about the of the staff at my school.
So basically, I'm working in Minami Alps until March, guaranteed. I want to stay here for another year. Ideally, I would stay at the same junior high school at which I am currently working. So what's the problem? The BoE, and the company for which I work, of course!
Fact 1: New regulations go into effect, requiring English for 5th and 6th grade elementary students.
Fact 2: A new ALT comes in August, come the sister city in the bible belt.
Fact 3: My Japanese is not great, but is better than when I got here, and is ever improving.
Regarding the first tidbit, I have no problem working at an elementary school.
Second tidbit, even the company has no control over this matter. This was decided by the city, for whatever reason, and whatever.
So the problem is that the BoE has started banging their heads against the wall daily instead of actually using them, and therefore decreed that only people who have a certain level of proficiency in Japanese can teach Elementary. Despite the fact that currently throughout the country, there are ALTs who teach English to these kids with no Japanese language ability and have no way to communicate with the elementary teachers who are not trained English teachers and therefore can't speak it. But this is suddenly a problem now for this city and only this city thoughout the whole of Japan. The other bit is that they decided to arbitrarily decide that all ALTs must have a junior high school AND an elementary school. So the stoner who currently teachers at the elementary schools in the shirane area (where I work) must suddenly for whatever reason get a JHS. Guess who's he's getting. So yeah.
Back to the other part. The second tidbit. There are some JHs in this town. Koma, Midai, Wakakusa, Kosai, Kushigata, hatta, and Ashiyasu that I know of. Koma and Midai are in Shirane, and the stoner works at all the shirane elementaries, but will only be working at 2/4 plus my school next year. The other two elementaries are linked to midai. Hatta has 2 elementaries, and the JHS. The dude currently working there is (probably) staying there next year. They want my buddy to possibly teach at kosai jhs and elementary next year instead of wakakusa, where he does both jhs an elem. Dunno what they plan to do 'bout the elem. next year, but they said it's be taken care of. The girl working at kushigata jhs, ms. stompy, is maybe gonna teach there (wakakusa) next year. Dunno about the elem. schools in kushigata. There will be 3 new ALTs coming in as well.
So, first, Ashiyasu. both the jhs and elem. school are tiny. Less than 50 kids tiny. So they'd only be 1 day a week things. Also located up in the mountains. So despite the fact that my buddy has no problem (and volunteered) to take the bus, they seem set on having someone with a cr take it. Ok. Hatta ALT thinks he might get a car. Stoner just bought a car. But this is still a problem thing. Whatever, irrelivant to me ATM, right? Right.
Anyway, where does all this shit leave me? Possibly in Kushigata jhs, the giant school with 600 students. But only for three months, because of the stupidit with the new sistercity ALT coming in. What happens to me after that? Fuck if I know. Fuck if the BoE cares.
More details. Ms. Stompy is rooming with my buddy, since she couldn't pay her move in costs. My buddy and her can't stand each other, yet they've stayed together for almost 5 months. He wants her out ASAP. The company won't do anything until she's signed a contract for next year. This will keep her in minami alps, despite the fact that she hates the people and the city. Also, she's currently working in kushigata and would love to move to another prefecture.
And yet I'M the one getting screwed over in all this.
