Today my coworker, Julia, and I had a semi-rough day. We know that we have relatively cushy jobs, but that doesn't mean they aren't mentally draining and often upsetting. Today we interviewed an older couple. To make a long story short, the older woman almost "witnessed" to me before I insisted that I have family members who are Jehovah's Witnesses and that I am really not interested in hearing more. In addition, Julia got to hear about how the man watched pornography. I just can't begin to explain how weird and disconcerting and sad all this was.
This came in the middle of our 8 hour stay in one room of the Eastern Michigan Library. We couldn't leave and risk having our equipment stolen. Usually we get to lock it up. There they wouldn't let us. So we sat there during long times of no interviews. Our last one didn't even show. So we sat around for nothing.
BUT, we then went and had delicious Indian food. Then we stopped by Trader Joes. It's totally STEAKSAUCE. Even, LEGENDAIRY.
Finally, we wrapped up the evening by having a glass of wine and then dangling our legs in the heated pool. That is, until the slightly rude front desk clerk made us leave. We didn't even get to get into the hottub because a bunch of high school kids were hogging it.
Ah well.
Tomorrow: Ikea, an Aveda haircut and maybe another massage (half price), dinner with my family
