Don Bosco Campsite Review

Aug 27, 2009 13:39

To those who were there last weekend:

I'd like any further input to reviewing the Don Bosco campsite, for putting in the archives, for helping us to select future campsites. Especially anyone catering, can you review the kitchen.

Subjective opinion can be a good thing, but consider keeping separate things about the camp from things about the site, even though things that were created by the site are important. For instance, although the quality of party or the quality of the food doesn't come from the site, the space and the kitchen can influence these things.

By the way, Camp was awesome :D

1) Distance: Dromana/ Safety Beach; 30 min from Frankston, 1hr from Monash (Eastlink, no traffic) ♪♪♪½
2) Rehearsal hall: 2 options:
(a) shared dining space, moderate size (rehearse up to 70?), heated, sunny (lots of windows), acceptable acoustic, lino floors, not too much noise from adjacent kitchen. Horrible plastic “garden setting” style seats ♪♪♪
(b) Larger separate “Games room” - fairly drafty wooden floor, significantly larger than other space. Unheated. Requires shifting plastic chairs from dining hall (there are plenty to move, campsite holds 148), and moving ping-pong tables and table-soccer tables out of the way. ♪♪

EDIT: The site says that there are "3 recreation rooms, ... theatre". Does this mean another suitable rehearsal hall that wasn't opened?

3) Dorms: many small-medium rooms (4-10 beds) in dorm buildings of about 5 rooms each, slat based-bunks of varying quality with thin foam mattresses. ♪♪♪♪
4) Kitchen/dining: Has separate dish-washing room... but near rehearsal space ♪♪♪ ???
5) Heating: Dining space only. EDIT: according to their site, "accomodation" is heated. It was only a moderately cold night - mostly windy - and I remember the dorms being a touch chilly, but it's possible that they were heated.
6) Toilets: OK toilets in dorm buildings, decent showers, trough basins. ♪♪♪1/2 EDIT: no hooks to hang towels or clothes on
7) Other: Utterly devoid of comfortable chairs, no sofas. Only comfortable surfaces are mattresses. Large grass area in middle has tendency to create mud
