Alright then... As many will already know, NCIS shares an actor (David McCallum) with the 1960's spy series Man from U.N.C.L.E, which on a side note, if you've never watched this series, do. If anything to see what Ducky looked like as a young man. 'Fallen angel' suns it up pretty well;)
There is a school of thought within fandom that when Illya Kuryakin (the character DMC played) hung up his Special, he swapped the spy business for 'slicing and dicing' (not that much of a leap, Illya was the scientist of the team). Which does beg the question... what happened to Napoleon Solo (Illya's parter in crime and the bedroom too!) in the thirty odd years between then and now? Anyone who's watched the UK series Hustle will have a pretty good idea as to what happened to Napoleon!;)
When Albert/Napoleon, turns up on Ducky/Illya's doorstep, an old friendship is rekindled. Much to the 'disgust' of Gibbs who 'overhears' their meeting and jumps to the conclusion that the love he feels for Ducky isn't returned, because the good Doctor is in love with someone else. I won't say who (I'm not spoiling the story - just read it okay?!) but it made me grin like a fiend;)
Okay, it plays fast and loose with canon, but put that niggle aside and enjoy a wonderful story about friendship, love, second chances, eavesdropping and jumping to conclusions!
