As the camera lights and the reporters' chatter began dying down, Fornell all but pulled himself away from the press. True, NCIS had taken hold of the case, but in the end, it was he who was holding conference with the press, not Gibbs. In the end, wasn't that all that really mattered? The FBI was being credited with stopping the threat, whether it be terrorist or otherwise.
Gibbs may have gotten control of the investigation early on, but Fornell had it in the tail end. Essentially, he had come out the winner in it all.
The final camera light died out and the news vans began to pull away. Fornell, stood back with a deep breath and let out an inaudible sigh. His face would be on the news tonight, maybe tomorrow, but eventually, the public would forget about what had happened. Their attention would be focused on other things in the coming days, weeks and even months. This was true for his own attention as well. There would be other cases that would need solving. Fornell was more than positive that he would have more than his fair share of run ins with Gibbs and NCIS. For now, he would take what he was given, his share of the limelight. After all, he deserved it.
