Ducky glanced up at the clock. “Damn” he said aloud. Only five minutes had passed since he last looked at the clock. Only three hours and forty-five minutes until he could even think of going home. He sighed and returned to the report on his desk. But what would he do when he got home anyway? Sit in his chair and count the hours until he could even think of attempting to go to sleep.
He leaned back in his chair. He pushed up his glasses and rubbed his eyes. When did time start to go by so slowly?
Who was he trying to fool? Ducky knew to the very second when time had become frozen for him. The night two weeks ago that Leroy Jethro Gibbs stepped out of the ME’s life, without so much as even a good-bye.
The medical side of Ducky knew that Jethro’s rather aberrant behaviors were all sequela of the trauma and subsequent coma. Oh, Jethro’s body and mind would heal in time, but would his soul?
Ducky longed for Jethro’s touch. Certainly the intimate touch of long-time lovers, but also for the small day to day ones. The cheek pat, the shoulder taps, the times Jethro stood so closely behind him peering myopically at the X-ray screen that Ducky could feel the gray-haired agent’s heartbeat. The ME reflexively inhaled deeply remembering the scent that was solely Gibbs’…sawdust.
Ducky glanced at the clock. Damn, only three hours and twenty minutes until he could even think of going home.
Whoa! My love, my darling,
I hunger for your touch,
A long, lonely time.
And time goes by, so slowly,
And time can do so much,
Are you still mine?
I need your love.
I need your love.
Godspeed your love to me.
Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea.
To the open arms of the sea..
Lonely rivers sigh, wait for me, wait for me.
I’ll be coming home wait for me.
