Summary: Gibbs takes a minute to observe his team at work on a case.

Special Agent Gibbs stopped at the bottom of the stairwell in the office and took position to surreptitiously observe his team. They were working on a significant embezzlement case at the moment and Gibbs had left the bullpen to brief Vance on how the investigation was proceeding.

Gibbs took a moment to admire his team. He was proud of them and the work they did, although he would never tell them such a thing. There was no use in having them get complacent and full of themselves.

Ziva was turning into a competent, efficient investigator. Her world-wide contacts were extremely helpful. She was also handy for playing the heavy in "good cop/bad cop" situations. Gibbs knew he could count on her to bring that edge of menace and violence to the forefront whenever he needed it. After just looking into her eyes suspects intuitively could see the predator and know that she was capable of anything, and in fact had probably done almost everything. It was enough to get some suspects babbling away.

McGee was a whiz with a device that Gibbs really knew almost nothing about. McGee couldn track down almost anything by way of the computer. He whipped up programs and traced evidence that would have taken Gibbs days to find, if at all. He too was developing into a confident, focused investigator and field agent.

And then there was Tony. Tony DiNozzo was his masterpiece. In the eight years they'd worked together Tony had grown into a formidable investigator. With Gibbs' training and encouragement Tony was a confident leader, capable of all aspects of leading a team and investigating a case. Suspects and witnesses bought his goofy playboy persona at their own peril, and often ended up seriously underestimating the man.

Yes, Gibbs was very satisfied with his team. He hung back for a minute near the stairs to MTAC, listening in on his team working. He was curious to see how they were working through the paper trails they had uncovered this morning.

"Dammit", groused McGee, shaking his finger and sucking on the tip.

Tony and Ziva immediately looked up.

"What's the matter McGirlie, time for another manicure?" Tony mocked.

"No Tony. I jammed my finger. I'm typing so fast and pulling up so much information, doing my job, that I whacked my finger." McGee replied.

"McGee, I bet you $5 that Tony has had a manicure and at least one pedicure in his life." Ziva laughingly stated, looking at Tony the whole time.

"No bet there, Ziva. I'm sure he has." McGee replied.

Tony stayed silent and his irritation was obvious. Ziva and McGee started to laugh.

"I've gotten them, but not for vanity's sake, unlike McGoo here. It was part of my sports training. You need to have healthy feet and hands to play basketball you know." McGee's and Ziva's laughing was now to the point that it was attracting attention from other agents moving around the bullpen.

Gibbs couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Manicures.

They were talking about manicures.

At that point he decided it was time to make one of his patented stealth appearances and get his team back on course and in focus. Comic relief time was over.

He came in behind the three agents and groused at them. "If the three of you don't give me some new information immediately you'll all be using your fingers to find other jobs."

Ziva, McGee, and Tony jumped and spun to face Gibbs, each of them briefing Gibbs on new insights and evidence they were developing. They returned to chasing down the leads. Gibbs sat down, stern-faced and radiating an air of irritation and impatience. He was however, well-satisfied with both his team and the progress they were making in chasing down the money.

This is a somewhat like Ashleigh Anpilova's story, but I didn't read hers until after I posted mine here though. No copying was done or intended.
