Summary: A glimpse at Gibbs's thoughts as his team discover Deep Six

Gibbs threw yet another copy of Deep Six into the pile behind his file cabinet, and stalked off toward the elevator, leaving the rest of his team in mostly-stunned silence. Once out of sight, however, he allowed himself a smile.

A book, he thought. Who’d have guessed?

Of course, Gibbs had always known that Tim McGee had the potential to become a great investigator. Behind that timid computer-geek exterior, McGee was a keen observer. Just because he didn’t immediately use the information he discovered to annoy his co-workers, didn’t mean that he wasn’t paying attention.

Still, The Continuing Adventures of L.J. Tibbs? It was a good thing McGee was a good investigator, because he seriously needed to work on his subtlety. In fact, he was surprised none of the others had found out about the book sooner. Well, maybe not Tony- at least, not since McGee hadn’t signed into a movie deal.

His obvious…inspiration aside, the book was actually fairly good. McGee’s narration was a bit dramatic for Gibbs’s taste, but the story moved along well. Gibbs was even a little impressed with the way McGee had integrated elements from at least five of their cases into one consistent storyline.

As the elevator door opened, Gibbs could hear Ziva’s angry hiss from behind him, and what sounded suspiciously like a yelp from McGee. Pressing the button for autopsy, he leaned sideways against the wall.

As much as he was sure McGee’s self-esteem could use this little boost, Gibbs really hoped this Deep Six business would blow over quickly. He wasn’t sure he could take much more of Agent Tommy and Officer Lisa bickering. And, he figured, McGee couldn’t, either.

THE END
