LOS ANGELES, Jun 28, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Musician Jeff Buckley, an up-and-coming talent before his untimely death in Tennessee in 1997, will be the subject of a film by writer-director Brian Jun.

Buckley was considered one of the most promising artists of his generation when his debut album, "Grace," was released in 1994.

Elton John, Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney praised the album, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The film is being produced by Buckley's mother, Mary Guilbert, and Michelle Sy, a producer of the 1994 film "Finding Neverland." Jun, who is writing and directing the film, was nominated for the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival for "Steel City."

Buckley drowned in Memphis.
