Summary: The world is driven by Ma'at, a sense of justice and righteousness. But does it measure the world accurately?
The ancient Egyptians believed that one's afterlife was decided by the god Anubis, who weighed the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at. If the heart, heavy with the sins of a lifetime, was heavier than the feather, then the heart was consumed by Ammit and the deceased would be condemned to an eternity of oblivion. If the feather outweighed the heart, then the deceased had lived a righteous life and Horus would lead him to Osiris and Isis, who welcomed him to the afterlife. Harry wondered how a heart heavy with grief would weigh against Ma'at's feather.
