My biggest problem with Dexter was that Doakes was my favorite character. I wasn't really connected with anyone else- it took me a while to realize how much I love Angel and to appreciate Debra as a character more (the show only really promoted her once they got rid of Rita and made Jennifer the female lead).

I didn't quite like how Dexter became less and less of a psychopath as time went by and also had the best "luck" in thw world- anytime an "innocent" person (by Harry's code) got to close, Dexter tried to frame them and instead of having to deal with that, or actually kill said innocent person, someone else comes along to do the job for him (I didn't finish S7 yet, though I have heard some spoilers).

Plus everyone at Miami Dade police that isn't called Morgan (or Batista, when they remember he's a good cop) is completely incompetent. I can't believe they somehow managed to solve cases before Deb and Dexter started working there. And Debra's meteoric rise in ranks was pretty absurd and Batista should have been the Lieutenant (I have Batista feelings).

And then S6 started the whole Dexter/Debra thing, which I hate- because even if it's not biological incest, it's still incest and that stupid therapist psychic drived those ideas into Debra's head.

So far I'm really enjoying S7- got two episodes to go, then I can start on S8.

I might go back after, and watch everything in order...but I like the point Dexter's reached as a character where he's got feelings and he can even speak about them a bit.

I don't mind it now, I minded when he started having real feelings towards Rita, who started out as just a cover girlfriend, because Dexter knew she wouldn't want sex. I also roll my eyes everytime he mentions his "Dark Passenger" (it doesn't help that it ended up being an alien in the books, IIRC). But I absolutely love those moments when Dexter just doesn't get human emotions/what the right thing to say in that situation is.
