Billy Burke will co-star opposite James Wolk in CBS’ new summer drama series 'Zoo'

The network has locked in its high-profile drama entry for summer 2015 with a 13-episode straight-to-series order to 'Zoo', a drama based on James Patterson‘s best-selling global thriller. The project, which had a rare pilot production commitment for a pitch originating from sibling CBS TV Studios, hails from writer-producers Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The four are working under their new Midnight Radio moniker (formerly Space Floor) which has inked a two-year first-look deal with CBS Studios. Appelbaum, Nemec & Rosenberg and Pinkner recently executive produced the CW’s series 'Star Crossed', also from CBS Studios. On the feature side, among them they have co-penned 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol', 'Amazing Spider-Man 2','Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', as well as the 'Beverly Hills Cop' sequel, now in the works.

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by James Patterson, 'Zoo' is a global thriller about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans across the planet. As the assaults become more cunning, coordinated and ferocious, a young renegade biologist, Jackson Oz (Wolk), is thrust into the race to unlock the pandemic’s mystery before there’s no place left for people to hide. Burke plays Mitch, a straight-shooting large animal veterinarian who prefers the simple company of animals to navigating the complexities of humans.

'Zoo' will join CBS’ returning summer dramas 'Under The Dome' and 'Extant'.

Book Plot
'Zoo' centers around Jackson Oz, who is looked upon as an outcast among the professional and academic ecologists and biologists. Oz had been trying for years to get ecologists and biologists to listen to data he had been collecting on increasing numbers of mammal attacks on humans. Oz became so obsessed with this that he quit graduate school to devote himself full-time to collect data and argue his case. Finally, on a trip to Botswana, he has to survive an attack by a large band of male lions in which about 100 people are killed in a large geographic area. He saves the life of ecologist Chloe Tousignant and together they seek to warn the world that something has caused mammals of all types to band together in what seems to be an orchestrated effort to eliminate humans. The balance of this novel sees Oz gaining respect for his data and sees world leaders taking misguided actions to solve the problem, only to see even worse mammal attacks threatening the existence of man.

I don't know how many of you know this, but Daniella appears in The Night Shift (opposite Gwaine from Merlin and Michael from Roswell), and it was renewed for a 14-episode second season back in July. The second season's set to premiere February 23, 2015.

The Cast for the Wet Hot American Summer Netflix Series Is Completely Insane

The dream of getting the entire original cast back together for a follow-up to 2001’s Wet Hot American Summer got more unreasonable every year. The cult comedy kick-started so many huge careers. But that’s exactly what creators David Wain and Michael Showalter have done. That and more!

In addition to the original cast, Wain has added newcomers Michaela Watkins, Josh Charles, John Slattery, Randall Park, Lake Bell, Jayma Mays, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, and Richard Schiff.

According to Deadline:

Watkins will play a tough New Yorker, Charles is a guy from a rival camp, Huebel’s a rival professor to Pierce, Schiff is Pierce’s academic superior, Park’s a librarian in love with Shannon, Scheer is a journalist, and Wain is an acquaintance of one of the main characters from an Israeli kibbutz.

Returning members of the original cast include Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe Lo Truglio, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Kevin Sussman, and David Wain himself. (Via: Vanity Fair)

Or, maybe Mat?

A&E’s American adaption of French series The Returned will follow the storyline of the award-winning original, at least at first. A group of people return to their homes in a mountain town, only to discover they have been dead for several years and no one is expecting them to show up.

One of the returned is Simon (Mat Vairo), a musician who comes back to Caldwell County, Washington, 10 years after his death, only to discover his girlfriend Rowan (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has moved on and is about to marry. Simon and Rowan’s paths cross in the Caldwell Public Library in scenes filmed this Tuesday in North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley Public Library.

...Or Mark?

Mark Pellegrino has been tapped as a lead in Cuse’s 10-episode straight-to-series A&E drama The Returned. Pellegrino will play the rugged Jack, father of 20-year-old twin girls Lena, and Camille, who died in a school bus crash four years ago at age 16 and are now coming back.

As for comparisons to another series about the rising dead, “Very consciously, we did not watch Resurrection,” Cuse said. “We felt like that wouldn’t be good for our creative process.”

But Cuse did borrow from another project by casting Lost vet Mark Pellegrino on the A&E series. “It’s a very tough role because this character has really been destroyed by the death of his daughter,” the EP described. “[Mark and I] had such a good experience working together on Lost. It was the right mix of the actor and the character."

The Returned Premieres March 9th at 10pm on A&E.
