The current news cycle
Alrighty, so you've probably already heard the allegations that TMZ posted almost 24 hours ago. If you haven't, well done you, it's everywhere.
Unfortunately, I went on TMZ just before I went to bed last night and regretted it instantly. The original post was 2 hours old then, and a quick Google News search told me that 2 other outlets had already picked it up. An hour or so later, when I couldn't sleep I checked again. More articles, more comments, more visceral emotions than I'm used to...and I started thinking about whether it was right to make a post here. Coz I've always considered this to be a safe place. A happy place. I love this show. I love this cast. I love messing around with you guys. And this news shocked me. It made me sad, disappointed, and skeptical. And of course, worried about the rest of the cast - because I can't imagine anything much worse happening.
Yesterday, I wasn't in the mood to make a post. The fact is we don't know how much of what TMZ is reporting is true, but I think it's become unlikely, as more gets posted, to say it's just a cruel hoax, or a misunderstanding, or completely untrue. And that's horrifying. All day, I've been thinking about the show, and the cast, and you guys, and this place - and just because I don't want to talk about it doesn't mean that's right for everyone.
Still - I don't want the allegations discussed in detail around the Comm as I believe there are boundaries that limit how much we should discuss about the private lives of the people behind the show. At the end of the day this is a Community about a TV Show, a fictional world/reality full of ridiculously attractive and flawed human beings, who can't help but destroy the world. So that's what we should talk about. Fiction.
But obviously it matters...and you might need to talk about it, and it just so happens that this is your place to talk. So talk about it all you want in the comments of this post. I can't promise I'll read/reply to any of it (if any of it's directed at me) - because like I said, I don't want to talk about it - I don't have words for this. But if you need to rant or rave or wallow, this is your safe place too. If anything else happens and I need to make another post, I will. But in the meanwhile, consider this your go to spot to shout into the void that is the internet, if need be.
