April 2, 2014 | NBC's 'Revolution' kills off main character

NBC had been teasing viewers that "a main character" was going to die on Wednesday's episode of its post-apocalyptic series Revolution.

Would it be Miles Matheson, played by Billy Burke? How about Elizabeth Mitchell's Rachel Matheson? Maybe Sebastian Monroe (David Lyons) would finally wind up biting the dust?

In a phone interview after the show aired on the East Coast, Spiridakos said she remembered first getting the script for the scene. "I was sad when I read it. I think the hardest part is knowing you're saying goodbye to a cast member. We're all so close."

Spiridakos and Pardo spent "an entire day" filming the scene, she says. "It was an emotional day on set. We were having fun, but we knew it was our last time getting to play. There was heaviness in the room throughout the whole thing."

And even though Spiridakos has a stunt double, she says she did as much of the fighting as she's allowed. "There were a lot of bruises everywhere."

But, she adds, "Was it tiring? Sure. But I love my job and what I get to do. I felt satisfied."

Season 2 of Revolution has allowed her Charlie to develop into "this warrior woman," says Spiridakos. "I love how unapologetic she has gotten. She really doesn't take no for an answer."

So does this mean Jason is really dead? Couldn't the funny little green "nanos" (nanotechnology) possibly bring him back to life?

"Well, you truly never know anything,' says Spiridakos. "I can't say yes or no to that. But in the capacity of that whole Charlie-Jason love story, that was the end of that chapter."

The show is shooting the finale now, and Spiridakos says that throughout the end of the season the battle with the Patriots intensifies. As for Charlie, she says, will be coping with "guilt" and with "grieving" in the aftermath of Jason's death.

And, says Spiridakos, "I'm excited to see where Charlie goes in Season 3."

That's if there's a Season 3. NBC has not announced whether the show has been picked up.

Revolution airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will return with new episodes at the end of April with the finale on May 14.
