Ready | Bass; implied Bass/Miles | journey | teen | language

Waking the first night after he's been brought back to life is like swimming through slick, greasy soup that sits heavy in his gut, acid roiling, burning everything.

Bass figures he ought to thank Rachel, but he knows she's got to have a reason for doing what she did. He knows her well enough to know there's nothing she does without a reason. And it's a reason to benefit her, or Charlotte, or Miles. He wonders briefly what her father will say, Danny's grandfather, and coughs roughly as he sits up.

The moon is thick and fat and he shakes and shivers and the house he's in is cold and dirty and he's by himself after damn well being executed and he tries to stand, but he falters and falls to his knees on the grungy floor. And it's all he can do to not allow himself to dissolve into a puddle of fucking mess and tears and he crumbles, hands on his thighs, stomach twisted, brain pounding, he's alive after experiencing something no one should have to ever live through, ( ... )

That episode UGH. As bad as the tent scene in The Tower, really.
