Waffle House | Priscilla+daughter | Last Kiss | G | None

"Mom. C'mon, please? I can't sleep without a kiss goodnight."

Priscilla rolled her eyes at her daughter. "You're a big girl, climb into bed. What should we make tomorrow, waffles?"

"I'm not a big girl," she pointed out. "If I was, you'd let me make waffles all by myself."

Shuddering, Priscilla remembered the state of the outlets the last time that had been attempted. "You're right," she sighed. "I'll tuck you in, if you want."

"Course you will."

Of course she would, she did. It was harmless to indulge, to let her remain a child for another night. When there were all sorts of unfriendly people in the world, ready to make children grow up too fast--it was the least she could do.

She was out of the room and halfway to her own bed when she heard the voice surrounding her. "Come on, you have to fight it."

Fight what, she wondered? There was no need to for her to fight anyone.
