I spent a weekend in San Francisco and a weekend in Vancouver interviewing to be TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher in Japan. Each weekend was an interview with a different company. Vancouver Company pays more, gives more vacation time, makes you work less, has schools worldwide available to teach at after the second year teaching, and it actually matters if you show up to work. San Francisco Company pays less, makes you work more, has just slightly less vcacation time, but doesn't make you prepare for lessons, and you can call in sick all you want, because they don't care if you show up because there, you are a teaching assembly line member.
I got into both companies, and I shall be accepting Vancouver company. Although it means more responsibility, it also means higher pay, less work, free Japanese lessons, free transportation, my own apartment, and the opportunity to work internationally, plus a potential Masters in linguistics and TEFL certification! Do I smell a career?
